About

Intercultural Consciousness is Key

To understand ourselves and others through the lens of “culture” opens up the world and the possibilities for shaping it.  Our approach to EDI is rooted in the scholarship of Constructivist intercultural communication, a new approach for understanding culture, how we relate to it, and undertaking organizational change.

About our team

Amanda Grelock

I love what I do.

I've worked with a wide range of people, cultures, and perspectives throughout my life. The importance of intercultural communication appeared in every project and team I worked on. I began to notice that the organizations that had the least conflict and most enjoyable cultures were those with interculturally sensitive and inclusive leaders.

Today, cultural difference is our reality. Differences in ethnicity, age, gender, abilities, political preferences, hobbies, or social media info networks are found in every organization and relationship. Navigating these differences successfully to create actual inclusive spaces where communication and innovation flows is what an inclusive, prosperous future requires. My work addresses that gap by empowering individuals to authentically be their cultural-self while intentionally responding to culturally different "others". At the organization level, the goal is to create climates of respect for diversity. Intercultural assessments like the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) along with a Constructivist approach are the best ways I've found to introduce these concepts and inspire change.

Amanda has spent over 100 hours studying directly under Dr. Milton Bennett, the leading Constructivist Intercultural scholar and theorist behind the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS).

The DMIS is the methodology that underpins the Intercultural Development Inventory, an intercultural assessment she became qualified to deliver four years ago.

The DMIS is based on coherent theory and takes a developmental approach, giving individuals a step-by-step roadmap for developing our perception and communication strategies for building bridges and getting beyond toxic ‘otherism’.

These two characteristics make the model an unprecedented tool for beginning to understand and bridge across difference and other-ism, in the world and within ourselves.

After more than a hundred one-on-one coaching sessions with CEOs, employees, and friends, she is more convinced than ever that deep knowledge of the DMIS is critical to building intercultural awareness and, ultimately, outstanding inclusive leadership.

My life's work is facilitating intercultural awareness to help people navigate this diverse world.
